Nicholas F. Cognetta Sr. (1927 - 2005)
Owner/Licensed Funeral Director/Embalmer

Nicholas F. Cognetta Sr., founder of Cognetta Funeral Home, was in the death care industry for 57 years. Born and raised in Stamford, he attended Villanova University upon his graduation from Stamford High School in 1945. Nicholas had served the Stamford community as a licensed funeral director and embalmer for over 50 years in his own business, until his passing in August 2005.

Nicholas was a member of CFDA and NFDA and was a member of community organizations such as the Kiwanis Club, the Knight of Columbus 3rd and 4th degree, St. Mary’s Church, and St. Bridget's Church. He also served on the board of St. Camillus Health Care Center and Woodland Cemetery. Nicholas and his wife Naida have a son, 3 daughters, and 10 grandchildren.
 
Nicholas F. Cognetta Jr.

Nicholas F. Cognetta Jr., Owner and President of Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, was born and raised in Stamford. He spent his childhood working with his father in the funeral home, so it was only natural that he would follow in his father’s footsteps. After graduating from Stamford Catholic High School in 1978, Nicholas attended the University of Connecticut and then the American Academy McAllister Institute of Funeral Service. He has been with Cognetta Funeral Home since 1979.

Nicholas is a member of St. Mary’s Church of Stamford and St. Aloysius Church of New Canaan. He is also a member of the NFDA and CFDA, as well as a board member of the Visiting Nurse and Hospice Care of Southwestern CT, Inc. Nicholas and his wife Elaine have a son, Christopher.
 
John F. Esposito
Manager/Licensed Funeral Director/Embalmer


John F. Esposito, Manager of Cognetta Funeral Home, was born and raised in Stamford. John graduated from Rippowam High School in 1969 and from Norwalk Community College in 1971 with an Associates degree in Science. He then went on to attend the American Academy McAllister Institute of Funeral Service. John is a licensed funeral director and embalmer who began his career in funeral service with Cognetta Funeral Home in 1972.

John has two sons and is a member of St. Mary’s Church of Stamford.
 
Mark H. Frederick
Licensed Funeral Director/Embalmer

Mark H. Frederick, Funeral Director at Cognetta Funeral Home, is a native of Stamford. Mark graduated from Rippowam High School in 1975 and received a Bachelor’s degree in 1979 from Fairfield University. In 1993, he attended the American Academy McAllister Institute of Funeral Service, and has been a funeral director since 1992.

Mark is a member of the State Street Debating Society, and is member and past exalted ruler of the Stamford Elks Lodge #899. He is also the board president of the Long Ridge Union Cemetery Association. Mark and his wife Lisa attend St. John’s Lutheran Church.
 
Jacqueline M. Ruella
Licensed Funeral Director/Embalmer

Jacqueline was raised in Naugatuck, CT and currently resides in Waterbury. She is a 1972 graduate of Naugatuck High School. Following her graduation in 1974 from Salve Regina College in Newport, RI she attended American Academy McAllister Institute of Funeral Service and graduated in 1976. She has been in the funeral service business for over 25 years and began at Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory in March 2005. Jacqueline has two children, Erich and Elise, and two granddaughters.

 

 
Pamela Spika-Larriuz
Funeral Director Apprentice/Administrative Assistant

Pamela is the newest addition to the Cognetta family. She currently resides in Stamford. She is a 1998 graduate of Greenwich High School, and has also completed course work in Human Services at Norwalk Community College. She became interested in Funeral Services after the passing of a close family member & best friend. She is currently serving her apprenticeship at Cognetta Funeral Home while attending American Academy McAllister institute of Funeral Service. Pamela became a licensed cremation operator in April of 2006 and is a part of Connecticut Crematory Corporation. She is a former professional dancer and dance teacher and has participated in many fund raising dance benefits including AIDS awareness and cerebral palsy. She has been married since 2004, and has two children, Carissa and Christopher. She is a member of Christ Church in Greenwich.
Paul Gallagher
Certified Cremationist/Crematory Operations Manager

Paul is a life long resident of Stamford and has been with Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory since 2003. He is the Crematory Operations Manager at both Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory and All Pets Crematory & Remembrances. He received his certification in crematory operations in 1992, and has received several certificates of completion for various cremation courses. He has been in funeral service since 1979 and running a crematory since the early 80's.
