Efstathios Tournas

Efstathios “Mike” Tournas, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend passed away at Stamford Hospital on Thursday, February 3, 2022 with his family at his side. Efstathios was born on March 2, 1939, in Agios Kostantinos, Sparti, Greece, to the late Panagiotis Tournas and Irene Tournas. He was 82 years old at the time of his passing.

He came to the United States in 1959. With a passion for entrepreneurship, he became the owner of Zaharis Luncheonette, Dunkin Donuts and For Your Convenience. He instilled this passion to his children. Known for his loving heart and work ethic, Mike was loved and respected by all who knew him. He cared deeply for all of his extended family, as well as his friends, employees and customers.

He loved to travel the world, explore new places and live life to the fullest. He was a great conversationalist and loved to dance. He was a man of his word and gave advice and help to anyone who needed it. One of the greatest joys of his life was becoming a grandfather. He cherished his granddaughter Yianna, and spoiled her to no end.

He was a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church where he served many years on the parish council and served as a former president.

Mike was predeceased by his son Peter, his parents, brother Nick Tournas, sister Maria Tournas and her husband Harry, his brother in laws, George Morris and Daniel Russbach and his nephew Erich Russbach.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Jeanette, beloved son Constantine Tournas and his wife Despina Tournas, his adored granddaughter Yianna Tournas, his beloved daughter Irene Tournas, his beloved brother George and wife Kathy Tournas, sister in laws, brother in laws, nephews, nieces, cousins and countless friends.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, February 8th from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 1230 Newfield Avenue, Stamford, CT. A funeral mass will begin at 11:00 at the church. Burial will follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery, 124 Rockrimmon Rd., Stamford, CT.
