Ralph Knapp
Ralph Edwin Knapp, Jr., 88, a lifelong Stamford resident, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2024. Ralph was born in Stamford on May 4, 1935 to the late Ralph Edwin and Helen Corcoran Knapp, Sr.
Ralph graduated from Stamford High School in 1953 and joined the United States Navy Reserves. In 1957, he decided to follow his father’s footsteps and he was hired as a Police Officer with the City of Stamford. Ralph proudly and honorably served as a Police Officer for 26 years. After he retired from the Police Department, he became Service Manager at Grassi Oldsmobile-Cadillac and started his own construction business. In 1994, Ralph took on the role as President of the Stamford Retired Police Association. Ralph was also a former President of the High Ridge Cemetery.
Ralph was actively involved in local politics as he previously served on the Republican Town Committee. In his free time, he liked to travel to North Conway, New Hampshire where he enjoyed snowmobiling and skiing. Nothing made him happier than becoming a grandfather and spending time with his grandchildren.
Ralph is survived by his son Robert Knapp and his wife Jessica, his nephew James Purcell, his grandchildren Joseph, Thomas, Elizabeth and Abigail, as well as his lifelong friends Madeleine and Alan Sleath.
Besides his parents, Ralph is predeceased by his sons Ralph E. Knapp, III and Richard Allen Knapp and his sister Grace Doblander.
A graveside service will take place on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at High Ridge Cemetery, 2970 High Ridge Rd, Stamford, CT 06903. There will be no calling hours. The Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory is honored to assist the family with the arrangements.
