Albert Louis Close
August 14, 1921 — October 16, 2006
Albert Louis Close died peacefully at his home, with his family at his side, on Monday, October 16, 2006. Born in Brooklyn, NY on August 14, 1921, he was the son of the late William C. Close and Anna Muckenstrum. He lived in Greenwich from 1924 to1940 and then in Stamford from 1940 until his passing in 2006.
Albert was the loving husband of the late Eleanor A. Close for fifty-eight years. Albert graduated from Greenwich High School in 1939 and attended Pace College. He enlisted in the US Army Air Corps in 1941 and received various medals and ribbons for his efforts in WWII. Albert worked at Norman Hoffman/FAG for forty-seven years, the longest tenure of any employee of the company. He started out in Quality Control rising to the position of Corporate Vice President of Quality Assurance. He was a lifelong member of St. Johns Lutheran Church of Stamford and was president of the Church Mens Group. Albert loved functions of the Church League including pancake breakfasts and the selling of Christmas trees. He loved being around family, including interests of traveling, gardening, watching the NY Mets and the NY Giants and especially loving and enjoying his sons and grandchildren.
Albert is survived by his son, Richard A. Close of Bowdoinham, ME; two granddaughters, Kimberly Close of Brunswick, ME and Jillian Close of Stamford; a son, Kenneth A. Close and his wife Mary Burke Close; and their children, Andrew and Emily all of Ridgefield.
In addition to his parents and wife, Albert was predeceased by his brother, William; and two sisters, Susan and Marianne.
Friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, on Friday, October 20, 2006 from 5-7 PM. A funeral service will be held at St. Johns Lutheran Church, 884 Newfield Avenue, Stamford, on Saturday, October 21, 2006 at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Fairfield Memorial Park, Oaklawn Avenue, Stamford.
