Alexander �"Sandy” Vanech, 66, passed away peacefully with his family by his side after a two year battle with lung cancer. Born December 31, 1941 in Stamford, he was the son of the late Nicholas and Philomena Conforti Vanech.

Sandy was a graduate of Stamford High School Class of 1959, followed by Colonial School of Tool and Design. He was a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Lafayette Assembly Council #41; member of the Exchange Club of Stamford and the Umbrella Club of Fairfield County. He was also a member of the Italian Center of Stamford as well as a Past President of its’ Men’s Club. As a member of the Tamarack Country Club, he also served on its’ Board of Directors. Sandy owned Vanech Brothers Incorporated and Plaza West Associates along with his brother, Nick, for thirty five years, both being members of the National Home Builders Association.

He is survived by his wife, Pat Strazza Vanech of Stamford; three daughters, Debbie Lehaney and her husband John of Ridgefield; and their children, Alexandra; John Christopher; Samantha and Jacqueline; Donna Coviello and her husband Mike of Ridgefield; and their children, Nicole and Danielle; and Dawn Bivona and her husband Gary of Stamford; and their children, Joe; Jake; Jonmichael; Jeffrey; and Grace; a son, Jeff Vanech of Stamford; a brother, Nicholas �"Bubs” Vanech and his wife Terri of Stamford. Several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews also survive.

Friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, on Thursday (TODAY), June 14, 2007 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM. A funeral procession will be leaving the funeral home at 8:45 AM on Friday, June 15, 2007 and proceed to Church of St. Cecilia, 1184 Newfield Avenue, Stamford, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM with Reverend Thomas Thorne officiating. Interment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery in Darien.
