Alfred “Al” Louis Calladio, 88, a lifelong Stamford resident passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 17, 2016 after a long illness at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington, CT. Alfred was born in Stamford on January 16, 1928 to the late Albert and Jennie Umile Calladio.
Al was educated in Stamford schools and began working odd construction jobs when he was fifteen years old. A few years later, he found permanent employment with Sorenson of Norwalk, a Raytheon Company, where he worked until they relocated. His last and most fulfilling job was working as a landscaper for the City of Stamford. Al was an avid bird fancier and a pigeon flyer and was a member of both the Stamford and Bridgeport clubs for years.
In his final years he enjoyed spending time with his friends, as well as the enjoyment of taking his little dog, Pepita for walks in the park and being in the company of his family.
Besides his parents, Al was predeceased by his wife Edna”Skip”Jansen Calladio and his brother Henry Calladio.
Al is survived by his loving children, Deborah Romaniello and her husband Lenny, Robert Calladio and his wife Debbie, Jennifer Calladio and her husband Joshua Berkman, as well as his grandchildren, Dan Romaniello and his wife Tracy, Casey Romaniello, Carl, Mitchell and Alex Calladio, Michelle Calladio-Nuzzo and great grandchildren, Christian, Kayla and Dylan Romaniello and Ava Calladio.
The Calladio family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the third floor nurses at Stamford Hospital for the special care and kindness that their father received during his stay and also Stamford Dialysis and the compassionate medical staff at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital for the kindness they showed our family.
A funeral procession will be leaving the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at 9:40 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 AM at St. Mary’s RC Church, 566 Elm Street, Stamford. Interment will follow at St. John’s RC Cemetery, Darien. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 from 4:00-8:00 PM.
