Alfred R. DeCarlo, Sr., 85, of Darien, died January 8, 2009 at Stamford Hospital of natural
causes. Born on July 12, 1923 in Stamford, CT, he was the son of the late Antonio and Maria Leonardo DiCarlo.

Upon graduating from Stamford High School, Class of 1942, he attended Wright Tech. Mr. DeCarlo served in the U.S. Army during World War II, as a Sgt. with the 3rd Armed Div., 32nd. Armored Reg’mt. He was a member of VFW Post 9617, Stamford, CT., K of C Knights of Columbus, 3rd Degree, Counsel 41. Mr. DeCarlo was a member of St. Cecilia’s RC Church, Stamford, where he served as an usher, lector and cantor, plus sang in the adult choir. He also sang with the adult choir at St. John R.C. Church, Darien, CT. He was a guest soloist for many weddings and funerals at various churches within the lower Fairfield County area. He was employed and retired from the Machlett Lab and Raytheon Company, retiring in 1988.

Mr. DeCarlo is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary C. Bianco DeCarlo, Darien; a sister, Sr. Filomena DiCarlo, MPF, Morristown, NJ; three sisters-in-law, Mary A. DiCarlo, Stamford, CT; Florence Bianco of Darien; & Nancy Dorcey of Sun City West, AZ; brother-in-law, Jack Dorcey of Sun City West, AZ; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Alfred R. DeCarlo, Jr; two sisters, Ann & Santa Lombardi; and two brothers, Joseph E. DeCarlo & Anthony R. DiCarlo.

Friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford on Friday, January 9 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM. A funeral procession will be leaving the funeral home at 9:20 AM on Saturday, January 10 and proceed to Church of St. Cecilia, 1184 Newfield Av., Stamford, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM. Entombment will follow at St. John Cemetery Mausoleum in Darien, CT.
