Alice Pond
November 1, 1938 — January 13, 2014
Alice J. Pond, 75, formerly of Stamford passed away peacefully on Monday January 13, 2014. Alice was born on November 1, 1938 in Torrington, CT to the late Felix and Helen Hotra Zande.
Alice Jean attended Torrington High School and then graduated from Post Junior College. In 1958 she and her new husband moved to the US Army Base in Baumholder, Germany, and traveled throughout Europe. After settling in Stamford in 1962, Alice began organizing her new home, while raising her 3 children and working part time to help support her family. Later in life, Alice returned to school to enhance her education and expand her knowledge, while working full-time with companies including Continental Can and GE Commercial Finance. Alice was a recognized volunteer and supporter of the American Cancer Society for many years. On Saturdays she could be found at the Stamford Arboretum, where she volunteered her ‘green thumb’. Alice had classic good taste, was a great beauty, a phenomenal cook and a superior bridge player. She loved her children and grandchildren. She was very well read and loved parties, movies, camping, crafts and was active at the local senior centers.
Alice is survived by her daughter, Susan Saracena & husband Tom and their children, Michael & Claire of Westport; her son Jeff Pond & wife Donna, of Bridgeport and their children, Christopher, Nicholas & Katelyn; her son Kyle Pond & his wife Susan Zuanelli & their children William, Benjamin and Lucy of Wilton; Her sister Gail Bergeron & husband Marcel, of St Louis MO; and two nephews.
Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her ex husband, Charles W. Pond, Jr.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday January 16, 2014 at Assumption Parish, 98 Riverside Avenue, Westport, CT at 11:00AM. Interment will take place privately at the New St. Francis RC Cemetery, Torrington, CT. The Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue Stamford, CT is handling the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the; Stamford Senior Center, 888 Washington Blvd, Stamford, CT 06901.
