Andrew Romanello

Andrew “Andy” Romanello Sr., 88, of Stamford passed away on Tuesday, May 15th, 2012 at St. Camillus Health Care Center after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Stamford July 3rd, 1923 to Donato and Marie Romanello, Andy was a lifelong resident of Stamford. He was a decorated World War II Army Veteran, receiving 14 medals, including the Bronze Star. He was a tank driver having been part of the liberation of Dachau Concentration Camp and also fought in the Battle of the Bulge. After the war, he worked for Richards and Jessup as a foreman before starting his own company, Metal Aire of Stamford, an HVAC company.
Andy is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Kay Sgritta Romanello, his sons Andrew and Daniel Romanello of Stamford, and Donald Romanello and his wife Mollie of Ashland, MA, his grandchildren Amy and Justin Romanello, Lisa Brady and her husband Patrick, three great grandchildren, Alexzandria, Kieran, and Grace, his sister Mary Ann Tartaglia, his former daughter-in-law Addie Bambridge of FL., and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews also survive. Andy is predeceased by his brothers and sisters, Angie Ciardi, Jean Bach, Danny Romanello, and Antoinette Romanello.
Calling hours will be at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford on Saturday, May 19th from 9-11am. A service will follow at the funeral home at 11am with Msgr. Edward R. Surwilo officiating. Interment will follow at St. John’s R.C. Cemetery, Darien, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Andy’s name to the American Kidney Fund, 6110 Executive Blvd., Vernon Rockville, CT 06066.
