Andrew R. “Andy” Soltes, 85, husband of Mary Soltesz Soltes, died January 16, 2010 at Greenwich Hospital.

Born in Norwalk on October 8, 1924, he was the son of the late Andrew Joseph and Mary Evon Soltes. During World War II, he served as an Electrician 1st Class in the US Navy aboard the USS Potoka, the USS Nitro and the USS Wyoming. After the war he was employed by Audio Tape Corporation of Stamford, until his retirement in 1987. Most recently Andy was a crossing guard for the Stamford School System and a Projectionist at the New Canaan Playhouse.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of 65 years, are his children and their spouses: David and Jo-Ann Soltes of Milford; Andrew and Eileen Soltes of New Canaan; Jeffrey and Jodee Soltes of Palm Coast, Florida; Patricia and Ralph Conte of Wilton; fourteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving, a sister Mary Ryan of Norwalk and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his two brothers, Edward and William Soltes.

Friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, on Wednesday, January 20 from 4:00 �" 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 21, 2010, at St. Bridget of Ireland Church, 278 Strawberry Hill Avenue, Stamford, CT 06902 at 11:00AM. Interment will follow at St. John Cemetery, Norwalk.
