Angelo Russo
March 10, 1926 — February 17, 2015
Angelo Raffaele Russo,88, a lifelong resident of Stamford passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at the Regency of Stamford. He was born in Stamford on March 10, 1926 to the late Charles and Filomena Mattera Russo.
Angelo was employed as a Tool and Die Maker at Electrolux. He was an avid Bowler, Golfer a Yankee fan and Little League Coach and City of Stamford, Ping Pong Champ in 1949. He was also a WW II veteran, having served in the US Army from 1945-1947.
He is survived by his devoted wife Lorraine Frances Merckling Russo of Stamford, three loving sons, Gary, Robert and Jeffrey Russo all of Stamford, his brother Peter Russo, grandchildren Kristi, Kelley, Danny, Denise and Michelle Russo, including three great grandchildren, Louis, Danny and Joshua Russo.
Besides his parents, Angelo was predeceased by his son Charles Russo and his siblings Mike Russo, Eve Elliott, Fred, Frank and George Russo.
A funeral procession will be leaving the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 8:30 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:00 AM at The Basilica of St. John the Evangelist RC Church, 279 Atlantic Street, Stamford. Interment will follow at St. John’s RC Cemetery, Darien. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, February 20, 2015 from 4:00-8:00 PM.
