Anna Barone
July 17, 1931 — June 12, 2018
Anna Marie (Polestra) Barone, 86, a longtime resident of Cos Cob, and a former resident of Stamford, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2018. Anna was born on July 17, 1931 in Stamford and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Antoinette (Cerreta) Polestra.
Anna was a former personal assistant with various doctors in the medical field and a homemaker who enjoyed cooking, reading and caring for her family, especially her two grandchildren who were the love of her life. She was an avid reader and volunteered much of her time at the Cos Cob Library, Central Middle School, Nathaniel Witherell Nursing Home, Greenwich Hospital and Kids in Crisis Center of Greenwich, among others. She was well known for her caring nature, compassionate soul and kindness that she extended to all. She was always the first to offer assistance to her friends, family and extended family whenever needed.
Anna is survived by her daughters, Linda Barone of Stamford and Karen Barone of Cos Cob, and her son, Albert Barone, Jr., and his wife Diane of Norwalk. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Alyssa Barone and her grandson, Alex Barone, both of Norwalk, a sister, Madeline Arnold of Stamford, and many nieces, nephews and life-long friends.
Besides her parents, Anna is predeceased by her husband of 38 years, Albert Barone, Sr., her brother, Vito Polestra and her sister, Rose Cronchuck, as well as her longtime companion Matthew DellaCorte
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 16 at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, 37 Schyler Avenue Stamford, CT. Interment will follow immediately at St. Mary’s Cemetery, North Street, Greenwich, CT. Family and friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT on Friday, June 15 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
