Anne C. Perna, 75, a lifelong resident of Stamford passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, March 25, 2014. She was born in Stamford on December 25, 1938 to the late Canio M. and Christine Sanseverino.
Anne was a loving wife, devoted mother, caring grandmother, and dedicated member of St. Leo's Parish. She graduated from the Mother of God Academy in 1956, where she worked as a secretary and remained a constant supporter of the school's Ukrainian Nuns Religious Order. She worked from early childhood with her siblings in her family's business, Camsan Electric & Appliance, and eventually served as the company bookkeeper. She was involved in all aspects of her local church including serving as a Eucharistic Minister, a beloved Youth Minister for 10 years, a CCD Teacher, in addition to serving as a Parish Council Member and President. Anne started the parish's International Dinner, volunteered at the local soup kitchen, travelled on multiple trips with the parish youth to serve the poor in Appalachia, and founded the Woman's Retreat. Anne was famously recognized as the founder of the St. Leo Fair's Pizza Fritta booth where she happily served thousands of people over the course of 35 years. As a result of her efforts she was awarded the Diocesan Bishop's St. Augustine Medal of Service Award and the St. Leo Mother of the Year Award. She also prepared and delivered numerous homemade meals to the elderly and ill of her parish. She will be sorely missed by friends, family, her parish, and the entire Stamford community.
Anne is survived by her loving husband, Frank J. Perna, Jr. of Stamford, her loving children, Janice Perna-Nicholas and her husband Frank Nicholas of Norwalk, Dr. David Perna and his wife Jenifer Nesin of Newton, MA, Michèle Perna of Stamford and Greg Perna and his wife Jennifer Reilly of Stamford. Also a brother Alfred Sanseverino and his wife Elizabeth of Stamford, a sister Carol Lupinacci-Lalli and her husband Michael of Norwalk and her sister- in-law Patricia Sanseverino and Jeanne Perna of Stamford; six grandchildren, Samuel Nesin-Perna, Jackson Nesin- Perna, Christine Chakrin, Blake Chakrin, Ian Nicholas and Riley Perna, several nieces and nephews also survive.
Besides her parents, Anne was predeceased by her brother Domenick Sanseverino and her brother-in-law Anthony J. Perna.
A funeral procession will be leaving The Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT on Friday, March 28, 2014 at 9:40 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:30 AM at St. Leo’s Parish, 24 Roxbury Road, Stamford. Interment will follow at Queen of Peace RC Cemetery, Rockrimmon Road, Stamford. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday March 27, 2014 from 3:00 to 8:00 PM.
