Anne Lane Wagher passed away Monday, August 30, 2010, at Stamford Hospital after a brief illness. Anne, known to many as “Abby,” was a resident of Stamford, having been born there to Thomas P. Cassidy and Anne Haugh Cassidy on September 22, 1934. Abby graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in Stamford and went on to receive her Bachelor’s degree from the College of New Rochelle. She later received her Master’s degree in English from Danbury Teacher’s College, as it was then known.
While living in Danbury, CT, Abby was active as a substitute teacher. For the past 20 years, she worked at CVS, most recently at the CVS in Darien in the Hallmark department, where she enjoyed interacting with the many frequent customers. She was a member of Our Lady, Star of the Sea Parish and was active on the committee to prepare meals for New Covenant House. She also enjoyed entertaining her family and her circle of friends.
Abby is survived by her three sons Felix (Phil) H. Wagher, D.M.D., Christopher W. Wagher, and his wife Mary, and Karl N. Wagher, and his wife, Cathy, and by her beloved grandchildren Alanna, Nikolas, Haley, and Erik. Abby is also survived by her brother, Thomas Cassidy, and his wife Jean, and by the godmother to her sons, Jacolyn Connolly. We shall all miss her greatly.
Abby is predeceased by her husband, Alan Edmund Wagher, her sister Elizabeth Cassidy Olson, and her eldest son, Alan (Timmy) Wagher.
Respects may be paid at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT 06902 on Thursday, September 2, 2010 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady, Star of the Sea Church, 1200 Shippan Avenue, Stamford, CT 06902 on Friday, September 3, 2010 at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at St. John’s RC Cemetery, Darien, CT.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations may be made in Anne’s name to the American Cancer Society, 372 Danbury Road, Wilton, CT 06897 or the Richard L. Rosenthal Hospice Residence, 100 Shelburne Road, Stamford, CT 06902.
