Anthony Calabrese, 88, passed away on Saturday, August 8, 2009 at Smith House in Stamford. Born July 19, 1921 in Castello, Italy, he was the son of the late Vito and Catherine Spadura Calabrese.
Anthony was a Carpenter for DeLuca Construction Company of Stamford for forty years. He was a Veteran of the US Army Air Corps having served in WWII. Anthony was also a member of the NCSC, Piedmont Club of Darien, Knight of Columbus, St. Gabriel Senior Group, St. Mary’s Senior Group, Sacred Heart RC Church, and the Senior Bowling League.
He is survived by two sons, William J. Calabrese; and Gary J. Calabrese; a sister, Marie Scime of Stamford; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Vera Mazza Calabrese; and a sister, Carmella DeCarlo.
Friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, on Friday, August 14 from 4:00 �" 8:00 PM. A funeral procession will be leaving the funeral home at 10:20 AM on Saturday, August 15 and proceed to Sacred Heart RC Church, 37 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM. Entombment will follow at St. John Cemetery Mausoleum in Darien.
