Antonio T. Legato, 96, of Norwalk passed away peacefully Thursday, May 15, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Italy on August 9, 1917 to the late Pasquale and Pearl Virducci Legato.
Antonio was a sheet metal worker for thirty two years with the Local #39 Sheet Metal Workers Union until his retirement in 1975 and also was a member of the Local #38.
He is survived by his loving daughters, Pearl McNerney and her husband William of Redding, CT, Mae Giancotti and her husband Nicholas of Norwalk, a daughter in law, Rosalie Pironto of Norwalk, eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, several nieces , nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
Besides his parents, Antonio was predeceased by his wife Jennie Toreso Legato, a son Frank Pironto, a daughter Theresa Covey, a sister Angie Columbo and a brother Anizio Legato and two grandchildren.
A funeral procession will be leaving The Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at 9:20 AMfor a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 AM at St. Mary’s RC Church, 566 Elm Street, Stamford. Interment will follow at St. John’s RC Cemetery, Darien. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, May 19, 2014 from 4:00-8:00 PM.
