Arlene Quigley, 85, died on Monday, November 2, 2009, at Long Ridge Rehabilitation Center, Stamford. Born on July 7, 1924, in Waltham, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Clyde MacNall and Amy Brown. She graduated from Cornell University in 1946.
Mrs. Quigley was a teacher for more than 30 years, most recently at the Greenwich Country Day School. She served as chairman and coordinator for the Cornell University Alumni Secondary Schools Committee for Fairfield County, and she directed public relations for the Fairfield County Cornell Club. She was president of the Oriental Brush Artists Guild and Art Exhibit Chairman at the Ferguson Library in Stamford. She was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Stamford, serving as both deacon and elder. Mrs. Quigley was involved in many other community organizations and activities.
She is survived by her husband Gary Quigley, two sons, Hugh Geoffrey Neale of Stoneham, Massachusetts, and Charles Neale of New Hartford, Connecticut, and her sister Audrey Ackerman of Locust Grove, Georgia. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Jennifer and Sarah, both of New Hartford, and Grace of Stoneham. Mrs. Quigley was also aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband Hugh Neale and son Peter Neale.
Friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory on Friday, November 6, 2009, from 3:00-5:00 PM and 7:00-9:00 PM. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 14, 2009, at the First Presbyterian Church of Stamford, 1101 Bedford Street.
