Audrey Margaret Piacenza Coppola, 80, of Stamford passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, September 29, 2016. She was born in Stamford on January 6, 1936 to the late Leonard A. Piacenza, Sr. and Shirley Arkasky Piacenza.
Audrey was a very strong and courageous person who battled cancer for five years. Audrey was a telephone operator at SNET for eight years before dedicating her adult life to her late husband Mario of forty-two years and raising her two children, Michele and Mario, Jr. Later in life, Audrey worked part-time at Palmer’s Market in Darien. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining for her family and friends. She also enjoyed gardening, dancing, playing cards, following the New York Yankees, and spending as much time as possible with her beloved family.
She is survived by her loving children, Michele Kingsley and her husband Ken and Mario G. Coppola, Jr. all of Stamford, two sisters Lenore Ofiero and her husband Robert of Trumbull, CT, Gail Keyes and her husband Dave of VA, two brothers Michael Piacenza and his wife Karen of Stamford and Leonard Piacenza, Jr. and his wife Sandra of Cos Cob, as well as three grandchildren Mark and Melissa Kingsley and Mario Coppola and also a great grandchild Landon Bell Stuart. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Besides her parents, Audrey was predeceased by her husband Mario G. Coppola, Sr. and her daughter in law Isabel Coppola.
A funeral procession will be leaving the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford on Monday, October 3, 2016 at 9:15 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 AM at St. Mary’s RC Church, 566 Elm Street, Stamford. Interment will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery, Darien. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday, October 2, 2016 from 5:00-8:00 PM.
The family would like to thank Caring Hospice Services of Stamford, The Bennett Cancer Center, Dr. Angelo Mallozzi, and many caring friends and family that have been so supportive in our time of need.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made in Audrey’s memory to St. Mary’s RC Church, 566 Elm Street, Stamford, CT 06902.
