Barbara Helene Black, 76, of Stamford, passed away peacefully on Friday June 5, 2015 after a brave confrontation with illness. Barbara was born in Stamford on September 22, 1938 to the late Joseph and Sarah Gladstone Modugno.
Barbara was a true matriarch and a pillar of unconditional love, volunteerism and generosity of heart. Barbara will be most remembered as a loyal, caring and devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, daughter, friend and teacher. She adored the people in her life and was constantly growing her circle of cherished relationships. Barbara will be missed as our greatest fan in life and will be remembered as an icon and legacy of love.
She is survived by her loving sister, Marilyn Doby and brother, Ronald & Sandy Modugno and blessed nieces and nephews, Aunt Nonnie Askew, Uncle Joe Street, many cousins and loyal friends.
Barbara cherished and adored her children, Lydia & Ken DeBoe, FL, Dr. David John & Nancy Black, Wash, Dr. Lisa Michelle Solomon & Dave Karajakian, Mass, Celeste Amann & Frank Resta, NJ, Laura Anne & Jim Albert, CT, Stephen Robert & Debbi Black, CT and Liz Gilleski & Craig DelBrook, CT. Also considered children Donalynn, Marty & Charlie.
Her Grandchildren were her greatest source of joy; Dr. Amber Black, Alia Black, Timothy Black, Daniel Solomon, Alyssa Solomon, Ryan Amann, Corey Amann, Kirstie & Justin Phillips, Joshua Albert, Noelle Albert, Zachary Black, Rachel Black, Rebecca Rainish and Lucas Gilleski, as well as her Great-grandchildren, Kaiden & Kailee.
Barbara is predeceased by her beloved husband of 46 years, Joseph John Black, a son, Timothy Francis and a baby girl, Rebecca Lynne; parents, Sally Gladstone and Joseph Modugno.
Family and friends may call the Nicholad F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT on Wednesday June 10, 2015 from 11:00AM to 1:00PM. A funeral service will follow at the funeral home at 1:00PM. Interment will be private.
