Barbara Ann Montagnese Gentile, 74, passed away after a long battle with cancer on Monday December 11, 2006. She was born in Stamford on August 24, 1932, the daughter of the late John and Nellie Inzitari Montagnese.

Barbara graduated from Stamford High School and while attending high school, worked at St. Joseph Hospital in the nursery. She worked for 25 years at Pitney Bowes in various departments, including copier billing until her retirement in the mid 1980’s. She was a member and vice president of Sacred Heart Rosary Alter Society, President of Columbiettes, St. Augustine Council, 41; President of Catholic Daughters of the Americas, 1028 Court of St. Theresa; member of Catholic Daughters, Court, St. Mary # 82. She was also a member of the Italian Society, Lega Arena Dasa, VFW Auxiliary, and a member of AARP.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 54 years, Maurice Gentile of Stamford, two sons, Maurice Gentile, Jr. and his wife, Katherine of Shelton, CT and Brian Gentile and his wife Barbara of West Virginia; two grandchildren, Sara, and Joseph, and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she is pre-deceased by two brothers, Albert Montagnese, and Joseph �"Pip” Montagnese.

A funeral procession will be leaving the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory on Friday, December 15, 2006 at 8:30 AM and proceed to Sacred Heart RC Church, 37 Schuyler Avenue, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 AM. Interment will follow at St. John RC Cemetery, Darien. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, December 14 from 4 – 8 PM.
