Bertha Matsis
December 29, 1926 — August 20, 2015
Bertha “Panagiota” Vorvis Matsis, 88, of Guilford passed away peacefully surrounded at home by her loving family on Thursday, August 20, 2015. She was born in Stamford on December 29, 1926 to the late Peter and Stella Anastos Vorvis.
Bertha owned Andreas Restaurant along with her husband Andrew on Atlantic Street in Stamford from 1951 to 1993. The only thing she enjoyed more than cooking was the joy she received from her grandchildren.
She is survived by her loving children, Maria Suffredini and her husband Michael of Guilford and Steven A. Matsis and his wife Deborah of Newtown, her sisters Jane Vorvis, Catherine Candito and her husband Albert , all of Stamford, as well as her adoring grandchildren, Andrew, Peter, Christina, Andrew, Sophia and a great grandson George.
Besides her parents, Bertha was predeceased by her husband, Andrew S. Matsis, a sister, Jean Fusaro and five brothers, Nicholas, Andrew, Terry, August and John Vorvis.
A funeral service will be celebrated on Monday, August 24, 2015 at 10:00 AM at the Church of the Archangels, 1527 Bedford Street, Stamford. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery, New Canaan. Family and friends may call at the Church on Monday, August 24, 2015 prior to the funeral service from 9:30 AM-10:00 AM. The Nicholas F.
