Blanche Kersten Cummings, 84, passed away on January 4, 2007 at Lewes Convalescent Center in Lewes, DE. Born April 11, 1922 in Stamford, she was the daughter of the late Stanley J. and Josephine Serafin Kersten.
Blanche worked for Clarks Hill Answering Service as a telephone operator until her retirement. She had also worked for Yale & Towne Manufacturing Company and Pickwick Ice Cream Company. She was a graduate of Stamford High School, Class of 1940, and was a volunteer at the Beebe Medical Center. Blanche was also a member of the USS Alabama Association; former President of the St. Marys Rosary Society; former Vice President of the St. Marys Parish Council; a member of the Catholic Daughters of America; a member of the St. Judes Church in Lewes, DE; the past President of the Yankee division; and the former Vice President of the Catholic Council of Women.
Ms. Cummings is survived by a son, Michael F. Cummings of Norwalk; a daughter, Nancy L. Cummings of Long Neck, DE; a sister, Louise Tucciarone of Pouhquag, NY; a brother, Edward R. Kersten of Beacon Falls; and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, Francis X. Cummings; and three brothers, Henry J., Stanley and Eugene Kersten; and one sister, Kathryn Alice Kersten.
A funeral procession will be leaving the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, at 9:45 AM on Monday, January 8, 2007 and proceed to St. Mary RC Church, 566 Elm Street, Stamford, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at St. Johns Cemetery, Camp Avenue, Darien. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday, January 7, 2007 from 4:00 8:00 PM.
