On October 31, 2014 Canio V. Lorusso, 86, of Stamford died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Stamford on December 24, 1927 to the late Angelo and Donata Marie Orsino Lorusso.
Canio attended Stamford High School, Class of 1945, and Pace Institute where he earned a degree in accounting. He and his partner Anthony DeVito Jr. owned a successful business in Stamford for many years prior to his retirement.
He was a veteran of the United States Army and served his country during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1952 as Sergeant First Class.
Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, he is survived by his wife Angela Mancusi Lorusso of 61 years; his three children and their families; Michael and Lorraine Lorusso of Norwalk, Joanne and Michael Carpanzano of Stamford and Mark and Patricia Lorusso of Norwalk, his seven grandchildren, Michael, Joseph and wife Brandi, Mario and wife Josie, Michele and fiancé Dave, Julia, Stephen, Charles and his two great grandchildren Canio and Fia.
Canio treasured the time he spent with his family, especially Sunday dinner at his home. He was a devoted husband and served as primary care giver to his wife Angela until his death.
Canio is also survived by his sister Marie “Minnie” Zezima. Besides his parents he is predeceased by his sister Carmella “Nellie” and his brothers Danny, Tony, Paul and Charlie.
A funeral procession will leave the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT on Tuesday November 4, 2014 at 12:40PM and proceed to The Basilica of St. John the Evangelist RC Church, 279 Atlantic St, Stamford, CT for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 1:30PM. Interment will follow at St John’s RC Cemetery, Darien, CT. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday November 3, 2014 from 4:00 to 8:00PM.
