Carl A. Battinelli, Sr., 82, passed away on Sunday, April 1, 2007 at Stamford Hospital. Born February 4, 1925 in Darien, he was the son of the late Pasquale and Katherine Bruno Battinelli.
Carl was a local builder and owned his own company, Carl A. Battinelli and Son, for fifty-eight years until his retirement. He was a veteran of the US Marines serving in WWII and having fought in the Battle of Guada Canal, and participated in action against the enemy in Okanawa. He was also a commanding officer of the Young Marines of Stamford and an active member of the Italian Center of Stamford, as well as its Mens Club.
He is survived by his beloved wife of fifty-nine years, Helen Rekos Battinelli; was the devoted father to a daughter, Carol DeSiato; a son, Carl A. Battinelli, Jr. and his wife Sue; two sisters, Ursula Rich; and Rita Murphy; two brothers, Pasquale and Louis Battinelli; and a brother-in-law, Bill Zaccagnino; the adoring grandfather to six grandchildren, Louis DeSiato III and his wife Dana of Moscow, PA; Christopher DeSiato of Stamford; Kara Battinelli; Katelyn Battinelli; Carl A. Battinelli III; and Paul Battinelli all of Stamford; and a great-granddaughter, Lexi Ann DeSiato of Moscow, PA. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Anne Zaccagnino; a brother, Ralph Battinelli; and a son-in-law, Louis P. Desiato, Jr.
Friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, on Tuesday, April 3, 2007 from 4:00 8:00 PM. A funeral procession will be leaving the funeral home at 9:10 AM on Wednesday, April 4, 2007 and proceed to St. Leo Parish, 24 Roxbury Road, Stamford, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery.
