Carmela Mary Colandro, 77, a lifelong Stamford resident, died peacefully on Thursday June 22, 2006 at Stamford Hospital with her family at her side. Born on December 27, 1928, in Stamford, CT, she was the daughter of the late Dominick and Angelina Loglisci DeNicola.
In 1956, she founded Stamford Box Lunch with her late husband, John J. Colandro Sr. They also owned The Deli Club and Gaiety Package on West Avenue, for 15 years.
Carmela was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was known for her infectious smile that brought joy to everyone around her. She loved being surrounded by her family. An avid Rod Stewart fan, Carmela could not help but to sing and dance along when a song played.
Carmela will always be remembered for her strong will and unconditional love. She touched the lives of everyone she knew, leaving a small piece of her soul with anyone she encountered. She is forever in our hearts and will truly be missed.
Carmela is survived by a daughter, Frances Colandro and four sons, Anthony Colandro and his wife Madlyn; John J. Colandro Jr; Frank Colandro; and Dominick Colandro and his wife Carol, all of Stamford. She is also survived by five granddaughters, Kelley, Valerie, Casey, Toni and Jenna; five grandsons, John, Dominick �"Nicky, John, Rocco, and Michael; three brothers, Pat �"Skippy DeNicola and his wife Marion; Joseph DeNicola and his wife Marge, all of Stamford; and Vincent DeNicola and his wife Lorraine of Jamestown, SC; two sisters, Marie Parente and her husband Hank; and Linda Vozzella, also from Stamford; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she is predeceased by her brother, Frank DeNicola and her brother-in-law, Anthony �"Babe Vozzella.
A funeral procession will be leaving the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, at 10:20 AM on Monday June 26, 2006 and proceed to St. Marys RC Church, 566 Elm Street, Stamford, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM.
