Carmen John Scopporotti, 85, died on Tuesday, October 31, 2006 at Stamford Hospital. Born October 7, 1921 in Stamford, he was the son of the late Charles and Mary Milano Scopporotti.
John was the custodial supervisor for the City of Stamford School System. He was a past Commander of the Stamford VFW. He was also a member and past honoree of the Stamford Old Timers Athletic Association and a past member of the Stamford Special Police. He was very involved in a number of other community activities as well. John is a veteran of the US Navy having served in WWII in the South Pacific Theatre.
He is survived by three sisters, Antoinette M. Coppola of Stamford; Margaret C. (Longo) Coppola of Dayton, OH; and Santa (Martinelli) Ellwood of Port St. Lucia, FL. Eight nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Lawrence Scopporotti.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart RC Church, 37 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford, on Saturday, November 4, 2006 at 9:30 AM. Interment will be private.
