Carol Wallace Lovello, a longtime resident of Stamford, died on Wednesday, May 29, after a heartbreaking journey through Alzheimer’s disease. She was 75.
She was born in Stamford October 3, 1937, to the late Joseph H. and Julia C. (Straub) Wallace and was educated at the former St. John’s Elementary School and Stamford High School, Class of 1955. She was also certified as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). She was a longtime employee of Gen Re in Stamford.
On June 21, 1958, Carol married C. Duane Vagedes in Stamford, a marriage that lasted four years until he succumbed to leukemia on their fourth wedding anniversary, June 21, 1962. Carol subsequently married Anthony Lovello, Jr.
Carol’s unwavering Faith in the Lord brought her strength in trying times and a sense of greater fulfillment during happy occasions. She raised her family in a home full of love, laughter, home cooked food, good music, and easygoing conversation, a home where the door was always open. She made the difficult task of being a good Mom look remarkably easy. She took great joy in the successes of her children and the laughter of her grandchildren. Carol delighted in the simple things – the sun on her face, the breeze in her hair, having her feet in the sand at the beach, tending to her plants, long walks, her pets, or sharing a glass of wine with a friend in the backyard. She found daily pleasure in the pages of a good book.
Carol is survived by her son, Duane, and his wife Gayle; her daughter Jill; her daughter Christine and her wife, Laura; her daughter Susan Iacovacci and her husband Tom; her grandchildren, Michael and Stephen Lovello; Matthew, Samuel, and Raeanne Iacovacci; and Charlie Sullivan. She is also survived by her sister, Anita Mercede and her husband, Nicholas; and her former husband, Anthony. Additional survivors include her sisters-in-law, Ann Krupnik and Pat Vontobel; her brother-in-law, Richard Lovello, and numerous nieces and nephews. Carol’s brother, Henry (“Hank”) died in 1970.
A funeral procession will leave the Nicholas Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford on Tuesday June 4, 2013 at 9:40AM for a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at St. John’s R.C. Church, 1986 Boston Post Road, Noroton at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery, Darien. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, June 3 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM.
The family would like to extend deepest appreciation to the dedicated staff of Greenwich Woods and Masonicare of Norwalk, assuring Carol’s comfort and dignity through this ordeal. Please consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org, and pray for a cure for this awful disease.
