Catherine Bonina

Catherine G. Bonina of Stamford, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, March 11, 2010, at her home, surrounded by her devoted family. Catherine was born in Calabria, Italy, May 7, 1925. She was the daughter of the late Giuseppe and Mariangela Giamba.
A loving wife and mother, Catherine was happiest caring for her family. Her love of cooking and entertaining was matched with appreciation by all who had the opportunity to know her generosity and hospitality. A lifelong member of Sacred Heart parish, she enjoyed being a member of The Rosary Society and Columbiettes prior to suffering a debilitating stroke 7 years ago.
Catherine is survived by her three children; daughter, Felicia and her husband Stephen Carriero, their children, Catherine (William) Galvin, Stephen Carriero and Michael (Kristi) Carriero; daughter, Mariangela Maffucci and Thomas Maffucci, and their children, Thomas (Aneta) Maffucci, Jr. , Laura (Brian) Whitbread and Mary Maffucci; son, Salvatore and his wife Colleen, their children, Michelle, Christine, Lisa and Leonard of Monroe; and great grandchildren, Kiley and William Galvin and Tyler Maffucci.
She is also survived by sisters, Amelia Franchina and Stella Boccuzzi; brothers in law, Patsy (Ann) Bonina, Salvatore (Mary) Bonina, Eugene (Grace) Bonina; sister in law, Millie (Bill) Meno and many nieces and nephews.
Catherine was predeceased by her beloved husband, Leonard. Together, they shared a loving and wonderful marriage of 55 years. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Angelina Rosso.
Catherine was the heart of her family and will be dearly missed. Her heart will be carried in her family’s hearts forever.
A funeral procession will leave the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Ave. Stamford, CT. at 10:00 AM on Monday, March 15, 2010 for a mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart RC Church, 37 Schuyler Ave., Stamford. Entombment will follow at St. John’s Mausoleum, Darien, CT. Friends may call at the Funeral Home on Sunday, March 14, 2010 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM.
