Charlene Forrester Jones, 88, passed away quietly in her sleep, at home, Tuesday morning July 25, 2006. Charlene was born in the Southeast Kansas town of Pittsburg on February 10, 1918. She was wed to Richard D. Jones (Dick) on June 11, 1938 in Kansas City, Missouri. They moved to Stamford in the summer of 1949. Charlene was preceded in death by her parents, Charles & Julia Forrester, her two sisters, Virginia Burge and Syreta Thornburg and her husband of 47 years.

Survivors include her three children, two grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Her daughter, friend, companion and caregiver Demetra (Dee) Jones who still lives at home; Her son, Richard D. (Ricky) Jones II of Woodbridge, Virginia; Her son, Charles D. (Dennis) Jones and his wife Anna of Overland Park, Kansas; grandchildren, Daniel S. Jones and his wife Carla, and children Greta Jane, 3, and August (Gus) Folkert, 1, of Parkville, Missouri; Grandson Benjamin D. Jones and his wife Maria and children Elsie Persia, 9, and Milo Paul, 5, of North Newton, Kansas.

Charlene loved to travel and did so with her husband during his career with Trans World Airlines. A homemaker, when not raveling, Charlene volunteered all around Stamford helping friends and others whenever needed. She was a former Republican Town Committee Member, a member of the Stamford Woman’s Club, the Stamford Chapter NSDAR, the Connecticut Society Colonial Dames XVII Century, Deacon Stephen Hart Chapter and the National Society Daughters of the American Colonists, Connecticut State Society. She loved to read (listen to books on tape) and go to the Mohegan Sun to eat lobster and play a little.

A memorial service is planned for Tuesday August 1, 2006 at First Presbyterian Church of Stamford at 11:00 AM.
