Charles �"Charlie” Edward Gunnip, 83, passed away on Sunday, June 24, 2007 at Richard Rosenthal Hospice Residence in Stamford. Born May 29, 1924 in Stamford, he was the son of the late Edward and Katherine Wilson Gunnip.

Charlie was a retired Executive Color Critic for Reader’s Digest for fifteen years and was a Veteran of the US Navy having served in WWII. He was a Little League Baseball Coach and Umpire and a co-founder of the Father and Son Bowling League. Charlie was also an avid sportsman and a devoted father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Marie DeMatteo Gunnip of Stamford; two sons, David C. and his wife Dianne Gunnip of Stamford; and Daniel and his wife Debra Gunnip of Goshen, CT; a brother, Edward Patrick Gunnip of Greenwich; and four granddaughters, Jenna, Kate, Shannon and Meagan Gunnip.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Elizabeth Mason.

Friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, on Tuesday, June 26, 2007 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM. A funeral procession will be leaving the funeral home at 9:40 AM on Wednesday, June 27, 2007 and proceed to St. Benedict/Our Lady of Montserrat Church, 1 St. Benedict Circle, Stamford, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM.
