Charles P. Montagnino, 93, passed away on Saturday, October 24, 2009 at Sunrise Assisted Living in Stamford. Born April 29, 1916 in Stamford, he was the son of the late Ignatius and Regina Sclafani Montagnino. He was a kind and caring person and will be missed by all.


Charles attended St. John School and Stamford High School. He worked at Yale and Towne Manufacturing Company as a time keeper from 1937-1955. He then became a Dispatcher for Peabody Engineering Company for twenty six years. Charles was a member of St. Mary RC Church and St. Mary Holy Name Society. He was an excellent bowler, enjoyed having a good game of golf and also played baseball with Yale & Towne.

He is survived by his six nieces: Augusta (Dusty) Downey, Regina “Reggie” Ciancola, Alberta “Bert” Meceli, Leonora Ferro, Denise D. Colacicco, and Barbara C. Anderson; five nephews: Albert DeLeo, Jr., Salvatore DeLeo, Lucian Montagnino, James Montagnino and Frank Montagnino; Godchild, Cathy Lombardo; and dear friends, Ronnie Zurman and Theon Rodgers.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved wife, Agnes Hoffele Montagnino; three brothers: Anthony, Lucian, and Ignatius; five sisters: Josephine Tedesco; Augusta Romano; Carmella Corbo; Mary Montagnino; and Leonora DeLeo; two nieces: Jean Procaccini and Anita Docimo; and a nephew, Benjamin Tedesco.

Friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, on Tuesday, October 27 from 2:00 �" 5:00 PM. A funeral procession will be leaving the funeral home at 9:30 AM on Wednesday, October 28 and proceed to St. Mary RC Church, 566 Elm Street, Stamford, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at St. John Cemetery in Darien. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations are made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Building, Memphis, TN 38105.
