Charles William Munch, 84, a lifelong resident of Stamford passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, July 10, 2011 at Stamford Hospital. He was born in Stamford on October 23, 1926 to the late Daniel and Elizabeth Markowitz Munch.
Charlie served in WWII with the US Navy from 1944-1946 and was a lifelong member of the Ponus Yacht Club and a member of the CT Carpenters Union. He was an avid tomato grower and had build his first boat in his backyard. He was a NY Giant fan and enjoyed traveling to Long Island on his boat to have lunch with his friends.
Charlie is survived by his loving sister Elizabeth “Bubsy” Sandlock and her husband Stanley of Stamford, CT, his loving nieces, Susan Salerno and her husband Paul of Trumbull, CT and Patricia Sandlock of Trumbull, CT. Also surviving are his two great-nieces Brittany and Allison Lorenti, one great-nephew Timothy Salerno all of Trumbull, CT and a nephew Kenneth Munch of Stamford, CT.
Charlie will be sadly missed by his family, friends, especially the Hogan family, Eddie and Fitzie.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Daniel G. Munch and a nephew Daniel T. Munch.
Family and friends may call at The Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT 06902 on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 from 4:00-8:00 PM. A funeral service will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at the funeral home at 11:00 AM. Officiating will be Fr. Richard Alton from St. Andrew Episcopal Church, Stamford, CT where Charlie served as an altar boy as a child. Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery, Stamford.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations will be made in Charlie’s name to The American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, CT 06492.
