Claire Ann Laginestra,63, a lifelong Stamford resident, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 after a long battle with cancer.
Born Sept. 23, 1953 in Greenwich, Claire was the daughter of the late Nicholas D.and Mary Carella Laginestra.
Claire graduated St. Mary Parochial Grammar School and attended Presentation College Preparatory High School before graduating Stamford Catholic High School in 1971.
She attended Southern Connecticut State College then graduated the University of Bridgeport's Department of Business Administration with a bachelor of science degree in accounting. She later earned a paralegal certificate from Fairfield University.Claire was a Certified Public Accountant through the Connecticut State Board of Accountancy, and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. She worked in the accounting and paralegal fields for several organizations in Stamford, including KPMG, GTE Corp., City of Stamford, PBI and FASB. She worked most recently for the Town of Greenwich and at Stamford Hospital.
Claire is survived by her sister Camille Laginestra of Stamford and her brother Michael Laginestra and his wife Suzanne Keiser Laginestra of Southport. She is also survived by her nephew Michael Kellner of Stamford and her nieces Cecile Laginestra, Stephanie Laginestra and Caroline Laginestra of Southport.
Claire leaves behind an uncle, Joseph Carella and aunt Carol Carella of Florida and aunt Dina Carella of Southbury as well as many cousins whom she loved and who will miss her dearly. Claire was predeceased by her uncle and godfather, Angelo Carella.
Claire was a devoted aunt who was very proud of her nieces and nephew, and loved them as if they were her own children. Claire loved to travel throughout the United States as well as Belgium, Bermuda, Canada, the Caribbean islands, France, Greece, and Italy.
Claire's family would like extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Barry Boyd and his wonderful staff as well as the nurses and staff of the Bendheim Center, Greenwich Hospital and Calvary Hospital.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary Catholic Church, 566 Elm St., Stamford. Entombment will follow at St. John’s RC Cemetery Mausolem, 25 Camp Ave., Darien.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Claire’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38103
