Cleante A. “Git” Pimpinella, 85, a lifelong resident of Stamford passed away peacefully on October 18, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Stamford on July 25, 1928 to the late Mariano and Lucia Massone Pimpinella.
Cleante succeeded Pimpinella Construction, a now third generation family business. His late father Mariano established Pimpinella Construction in 1926; currently a thriving business led by his son Mario Pimpinella and son-in-law Joe Faugno Sr. One of Cleante’s greatest achievements was obtaining a highly respected role in the local construction industry. He played an instrumental part in building the Italian Center, which continues to be one of the finest non-profit community centers of Stamford. He was honored as one of the past presidents of the Italian Center, one of the retired Advisory Board of Directors, as well as one of the Grand Marshall’s of the Annual Stamford Columbus Day Parade. In addition to his life’s successes, he was also involved with many other non-profit organizations such as UNICCO, Knights of Columbus of Stamford, and the development and construction of Columbus Park of Stamford.
He is survived by his loving children, Lucille Faugno and her husband Joseph Sr. of Stamford; Mario Pimpinella and his wife Danielle of Stamford; and Michael Pimpinella of Maryland; his loving partner, Dorothy Ciavarello of Stamford; eight grandchildren, Joseph Faugno Jr. and his wife Sara, Keith Faugno, Nicole Faugno, Michele Pimpinella all of Stamford; Elizabeth Pimpinella-Pansino and her husband Mario of Norwalk, Skylar, Zachary and Addison Pimpinella all of Maryland; four great grandchildren Ava Rose, Nicholas, and Cooper Faugno and Raffaella Ann Pansino. He is survived by his sister Mary Toreso of Stamford, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Cleante was predeceased by his wife Anna Marie Genovese Pimpinella, a brother Vincent Pimpinella, a sister Eunice Durant and a brother-in-law, Thomas Toreso.
Family and friends may call at The Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT 06902, TODAY, October 20, 2013 from 2:00 to 6:00 PM. A funeral procession will be leaving the funeral home on Monday October 21, 2013 at 9:00 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at St Leo Parish Church, 24 Roxbury Road, Stamford at 10:00 AM. Entombment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery, Darien, in the Pimpinella family Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, his family requests that donations be made in Cleante’s memory to Masonicare Home, Health and Hospice, 525 Connecticut Avenue, Norwalk, CT 06854.
