Colleen F. Kenna, 72, a longtime resident of Stamford, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, June 12, 2025. Born in Stamford on February 3, 1953, she was the daughter of the late John R. Kenna, Jr. and Margaret Lucas Kenna.
Colleen grew up across from Cove Pond, where her love of animals first began. She & her sister, Maggie, rescued a variety of pets including some ducks that walked over from the pond! During her childhood she spent a great deal of time with her cousins and the neighborhood children enjoying Cove Island. She attended St. Mary’s School in Stamford, Sacred Heart Academy and later went on to graduate from Southern Vermont College (St. Joseph) in 1976 with a degree in Education. Shortly after her graduation, she began her teaching career at Stamford High School. She taught many different English classes as well as Sports Literature for the next 35 years. Colleen was also an extensive and enthusiastic traveler. She traveled to all of the Caribbean Islands, Cancun and Ireland. Additionally, she took a train tour of the Swiss Alps and a boat ride on Lake Como, Italy. Going hand and hand with her love of travel was her love of taking pictures, specifically of all of the animals she saw while on her adventures. She enjoyed capturing close up pictures of the wildlife she encountered while visiting many of the National Parks including the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Yosemite, Grand Teton, Everglades, Mount Rushmore, Acadia and Lake Tahoe. Her favorite places to travel were the Kodiak Islands off the coast of Alaska, Calgary, Jasper and Lake Louise; where she wishes to be laid to rest.
When not traveling, Colleen was an avid sports fan. She loved her New York Giants and Yankees. She was UConn Women’s Basketball’s #1 fan. In fact, she traveled to numerous Final Four Championship games!
Colleen had many dogs throughout her life, but the most precious to her was her loving companion Casey who never left her side!
Colleen is survived by her sister Maggie Kenna McCord (Bruce), her niece Lauren Miller (Kyle), her beloved nephews Brody & Bryce Miller as well as her longtime and dedicated friend, Lynn Ryan. In addition, she is survived by many cousins and very good friends.
Family and friends are welcome to attend a mass in her memory which will be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Saint Mary Church (Precious Blood Parish), 70 Gulf St., Milford.
