Constantine (Gus) Chalikis, a longtime Stamford resident, died peacefully of natural causes on Friday 14th, 2014 at his home. He was age 97. Born August 3th, 1916, in Heraklion Crete (Greece), he was the son of the late George and Theodosia Theofanikis Chalikis. Coming to Stamford at an early age, he attended Stamford High School and later worked in the field of stamping and forging metals.

Constantine was a veteran of World War ll, serving as a sharpshooter in the Indian and Burma Pacific Theater from 1941-1945. After returning to the states, he was co-owner of Chick`s Convenience and Luncheonette on 695 South Pacific Street in Stamford, CT until 1962. He was also the owner of a Dairy Queen in Stratford, CT from 1962 to his retirement in 1988. Gus was an avid photographer and gardener. He enjoyed experiencing in the growing of many types of exotic tomatoes. He was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Archangels in Stamford, CT.

Constantine is survived by his beloved wife, Irene Chalikis (nee Bartis), his son George Chalikis and his wife, Thea of Flemington, NJ and his daughter, Pamela Poulos and her husband, Michael of Stamford, CT. Constantine`s surviving grandchildren include George and Dean Poulos of Stamford, CT and Kathryne Chalikis Shomali and her husband Essam of Baltimore, MD. Also surviving are Constantine`s two sisters, Helen Legato and Ann Ventsias, both of Stamford, CT and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Constantine was predeceased by his brothers, Alexander and Manuel Chalikis and by his sister Eva Greene.

Family and friends may call at The Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM. A Trisagian service will be held at 7:00 PM on Tuesday. A funeral procession will be leaving the funeral home on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at 9:30 AM for a funeral service to be celebrated at the Church of the Archangels, 1527 Bedford Street, Stamford at 10:00 AM Interment will follow at Fairfield Memorial Park, Oaklawn Avenue,Stamford.Father George Poulos, Father Pat Legato and Father Harry Pappas will preside at the funeral service.
