Damaso R. Serpa, 90, of Stamford passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at Stamford Hospital. He was born in Cuba on December 11, 1925 to the late Vicente and Antonia Rivas Serpa.
Damaso, affectionately known as Nito was employed at Machletts for over twenty five years in the shipping dept until his retirement. He was an avid Yankees fan, loved fishing and playing dominos.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Elsa A. DelMazzio of Stamford, three grandchildren, Ivonne Cruz, Marianne DelMazzio and Richard DelMazzio, four great grandchildren Amber Cruz, Sabatino Cruz, Jason Purdy and Matthew DelMazzio, as well as three sisters Emma, Juanita, Elsa all of Cuba and one brother Guarberto Serpa of Cuba and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Damaso was predeceased by his wife Brigida Fernandez Serpa, great grandson Kyle Cruz, a sister Elia Serpa and three brothers, Oreste, Benigno and Juan Serpa.
A funeral procession will be leaving the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford on Friday, February 5, 2016 at 10:30 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00 AM at St. Bridget’s of Ireland RC Church, 278 Strawberry Hill Avenue, Stamford. Inurnment will follow at St. John’s Mausoleum, Darien. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, February 4, 2016 from 4:00-8:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Damaso’s memory to the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, CT 06492
