Daniel P. Gaudio, 83, passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2008 at home after a long illness. A lifelong resident of Stamford, he was born in January 8, 1925. He was the son of the late Michael Angelo and Nettie Viggiano Gaudio and the brother of the late Marie Gaudio.
Dan attended Stevens Elementary, Burdick Jr. High and graduated from Stamford High School in 1942, where he played baseball, football and basketball. He also played baseball locally with the Lone Star Twinks and softball and basketball for St. Martin AV, Freydberg Brothers and Leonard Three Gables which won city titles. He also bowled in the Visitation League for 26 years. Dan was inducted into the Stamford Old Timers Athletic Association in 1996.
Dan served with the US Army in the South Pacific (New Guinea 1943-1946) as a member of the 175th Ordinance Depot Company. He served in Korea (1950-1951) in the 833rd Ordinance Supply Depot.
Dan was employed by Freydberg Brothers/Artistic Ribbon Company from 1946-1965 as plant manager and by Clairol Inc. from 1965-1985 as Department Head, Raw Materials. Dan was predeceased by his beloved wife of 49 years, Mary Dalmolin Gaudio. Dan is survived by a son, Peter and his wife Cheryl of Narragansett, RI; and a daughter, Carol of Stamford. Survivors also include granddaughter, Tanya Howard and her husband Brandon of Willow Springs, NC and their three children, Ashley, Bailey and Austin; Grandson, Nicholas Gaudio and his wife Jennifer of North Kingstown, RI and their four children, Kristiana, Jasmynne, Sierra and Nicholas Daniel; granddaughter, Erica Makuch and her husband Daniel of Narragensett, RI and their child whom is due in September; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Friends and family may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, on Thursday, July 31, 2008 from 4:00 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary RC Church, 566 Elm Street, Stamford, on Friday, August 1 at 11:30 AM. Interment will follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery, Scofieldtown Road, Stamford.
