David L. Eilets, 83, of Stamford, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2026. David was born in New York, NY on July 3, 1943, to the late Leon and Elma Santiago Eilets.

David was a beloved husband, father and friend who was well-traveled, loved reading about current events, and had a sharp, colorful sense of humor. He grew up in Harlem, New York City, where he attended Food Trades High School (now Food and Finance HS). David entered the US Army in 1967, earning a National Defense Service Medal and Vietnam Service Medal, and receiving a Purple Heart for injuries sustained in battle. He returned to The Bronx, New York, marrying Esperanza Cortez in 1972, and worked for the New York City Department of Sanitation for over 20 years. In 1990, David and Esperanza moved to Stamford, Connecticut where he later worked for Darien Parks and Recreation.

David is survived by his wife Esperanza Eilets, daughter Elena-Benitez Whiteside (Anthony Whiteside), sons Michael Eilets (Heidy Vargas) and David Eilets, granddaughters Kyra Whiteside (Elana Kuflik), Mikayla and Zoey Eilets, brother Robert Eilets Sr., and extended family members.

There will be no calling hours and services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in David’s memory to Boys and Girls Club of Stamford, 347 Stillwater Avenue, Stamford, CT 06902.
