Deyan Zhu, 82, a longtime resident of New Canaan passed away peacefully with his family by his side on June 9, 2026, at the Stamford Hospital. Deyan was born in Shanghai, China son of the late Shoutian and Huizhen Zhang Zhu.
Zhu Deyan, founder of Shanghai BangDe Education Investment, was an educator, entrepreneur, and visionary whose life was defined by both his ideas and his unwavering devotion to family. Born into a family of doctors, he embodied discipline, compassion, and responsibility, building a career marked by creativity and constant innovation. Yet it was his character, his integrity, generosity, and selflessness that truly distinguished him. A deeply traditional family man, he showed profound love and respect in all his roles, from a devoted husband to a caring and dutiful son-in-law.
As a father, he set high standards that shaped his daughters into strong, capable individuals, instilling values that guided both their achievements and their character. As a grandfather, he cherished his two grandsons, sharing wisdom and guidance with warmth and care. A natural leader and educator at heart, he believed in shaping the future through people. Even in times of serious illness, he placed others before himself, leaving behind a legacy of strength, devotion, and enduring impact on all who knew him.
Deyan is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Shanshan Zhang. His loving daughter Anjian Zhu of New Canaan, and Anwei Zhu of Shanghai.
Family and friends will gather at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford, CT, on Monday, June 15, 2026, from 11:00AM to 11:30AM. Interment will be privately held.
