Dolores “Del” Jennings of Riverside, CT, passed away peacefully at Stamford Hospital on Thursday, November 2, 2023. She left this world with her family at her side.
Del was born Dolores Alma Lucille Massa on January 26, 1926, in Riverside, CT. She grew up in he New York City borough of the Bronx. There she attended high school and upon graduation, began a career as an administrative assistant. She was also a member of a “swing” band that played local venues during the WW2 years.
In the 1950’s she met the love of her life, Greenwich police officer Robert F. Jennings, and shortly after they married. They settled in Riverside, CT where they remained together for more than 60 years until his death in February of 2018.
After the birth of her first child, Robert, in 1964, Del embraced the role of being “Mom”. She had her second child, William, in 1966. As the boys grew, Del shared her love and guidance with them by volunteering as a teacher’s assistant at Dundee School in in the early 70’s and later as a Cub Scout den mother. In the 80’s, with her children grown, she joined a bowling league and became an avid golfer. She volunteered at the Greenwich Hospital Gift Shop for more than 25 years. Del was also a member of the Greenwich Women’s Club.
Del was predeceased by her parents, her brother, Lou, and her sisters, Ann and Tess. She is survived by her loving sons, Robert and William.
Del spent her life devoted to her family’s well-being. She was always there when needed. Her warmth, patience, understanding, and selflessness will be dearly missed.
In lieu of a service, the family asks that you commit an act of kindness in her memory. Interment will be private.
