Donald W. Scully, 86, died of heart failure at his Stamford home on February 8, 2009. Born January 30, 1923 in Greenwich, he was the son of the late John F. and Bessie (Doran) Scully. He and his brothers were particularly proud to be the great grandsons of Patrick Doran.
A self-made man, he spent his career in the banking industry, rising from teller to vice president of the First Stamford National Bank. He graduated from Greenwich High School, Class of 1941, where he was editor of the Yearbook, and met the love of his life, Muriel Dekay. They were married in 1948 and spent their lives together until her passing in 2006. Growing up in the Great Depression, he enjoyed telling stories of his familys life and his police-sergeant fathers many encounters with bootleggers, celebrities and criminals. Though times were hard, he felt they were tempered by the way people treated one another with dignity and respect virtues he believed, we are sadly lacking today. He was also a devoted Catholic through out his life.
He is survived by his two nieces, Gail Brown of Stamford; and Cheryl Prann of Sanibel Island, FL; three nephews, Richard "Rick Scully of Greenwich; Dennis Scully of Norwalk; and Jack Scully of Colchester, VT and their families; and his beloved schnauzer, Whiskers.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by three brothers, John "Hook Frank "Louie and Richard "Richie Scully.
