Doris G. Coughlin Scalise, 95, of Stamford passed away on Monday, September 16, 2013 at Stamford Hospital. She was born on August 21, 1918 in Prince Edward Island, Canada to the late Thomas and Elisabeth Ellen McLean Coughlin.
She was a Secretary-Treasurer of Dickmont Plastics Corp. of Stamford. A family business, founded by her husband, Richard Scalise in 1955.She retired in 1988.
She was the first president of St. Clement’s Womans Guild and a member of the St. Clement’s Choir for 25 years. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Hospital Woman’s Auxillary, Stamford Woman’s Club, St. Cecilia’s Bowling Club, Stamford P.T.A Council, Italian Center of Stamford and the Pacers Club in Jupiter FL. She served on the board of the Ryle School P.T.A and the Cloonan School P.T.A. She was also a moderator for the Republican Party in Stamford for several years.
She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Richard Scalise of Stamford, two sons, Richard T. Scalise of Trumbull and Donald Scalise of Fairfield, 6 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her daughter Elaine Twardy, 5 sisters Mary Theresa Coughlin, Helen Nollman, Ada Myrtle Kubelle, Marguerite Rousseau and Maude Angelo; 6 brothers James Sterling Coughlin, John Coughlin, Urban Coughlin, Harold (Red) Coughlin, Howard Coughlin and Raymond Coughlin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, September 23, 2013 at 10:00 AM at Church of St. Cecilia, 1184 Newfield Avenue, Stamford. Interment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery, Darien. There will be no calling hours.The Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT 06902 is honored to assist the Scalise family with the arrangements.
