Dorothy Dean Williams, 79, of Norwalk, CT peacefully entered into eternal rest surrounded by her loving children and grandchildren on Thursday, December 22, 2016. Born in Kingston, Jamaica, she was the daughter of the late Cecil Dean and Hilda Kelly.
Dorothy immigrated to Stamford, CT in 1969. She was employed by Kings Department Store, Electrolux, Marriott Corporation and JC Penney. Upon her retirement from JC Penney in 2006, she relocated to Douglasville, GA. In 2014, she moved to Norwalk to live with her daughter Doreen.
Working tirelessly, Dorothy blazed a trail of exemplary sacrifice and love for her family. She demonstrated a strong work ethic and an uncompromising determination to excel. An exceptional cook, Dorothy enjoyed preparing traditional Jamaican cuisine for family and friends. Always friendly and welcoming, her home was a gathering place for family, friends and neighbors alike. She had a broad smile, hearty laugh and sharp wit. Dorothy had exquisite tastes with a keen eye for fashion and home decorating. She loved reading (especially numerous newspapers), solving puzzles, gardening (her prized roses) and marveling at nature. She was also an avid viewer of Jeopardy. Most of all, Dorothy was devoted to her family, and she cherished their time together.
Dorothy is survived by three daughters, Doreen Sundar of Norwalk; Joan Stewart of Douglasville, GA; Angella East (& husband Patrick) of Stratford, CT; four sons, Kenneth Charlton of Jamaica; Norman Williams of Stamford; Trevor Williams (& wife Sharon) of Bridgeport, CT; Joseph Williams (& wife Ronette) of Douglasville, GA; a sister, Gloria Folkes of Bridgeport, CT; sixteen grandchildren – Brian, Kristopher, Keary, Courtney, Kascia, Neal, Stephen, Troy, Tray, Carmen (Shawn), Trevor Jr., Deanna, Chisomo, Victoria, Brandon and Zephrah; one great-grandchild Brianna; a nephew, Ronald Ellis and other family members and friends.
Besides her parents, Dorothy was predeceased by two sons, Alford (Aubyn) Williams and Dudley Williams; brother, Eric Ellis and her former husband Alfred Williams.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 30, 2016 at Union Baptist Church, 805 Newfield Avenue, Stamford, CT. A calling hour will take place from 9:00 am to 10:00 am, followed by a service at 10:00 am with the Rev. Dr. Robert W. Perry officiating. Interment will follow in St. John Cemetery, 25 Camp Avenue, Darien, CT.
