Dudley E. Loften, Jr., 77, passed away on February 6, 2007 peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by his beloved family at Stamford Hospital after a lengthy illness. Born on February 26, 1929 in Royce, Mississippi, he was the son of the late Rebecca Fiveash and Dudley E. Loften, Sr.
Dudley, a resident of Stamford since 1947, was a Veteran of the United States Navy, and was an avid bowler and animal lover.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Dorothy Greene Loften; he was the loving father of Cathy (Richard) Vaughan of Stratford, CT; the proud grandfather of three grandchildren, Kristina (David) Danehower; Megan Vaughan; and Michael Vaughan; and one great-granddaughter, Anya Vaughan-Wood. He is also survived by three brothers, Denny Loften of Florida; Joseph Lofton of Alabama; and Frank Loften of Mississippi; and two sisters, Evelyn J. Lebow of Georgia; and Emma J. Huffman of Virginia.
Calling hours will be held at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, on Thursday, February 8, 2007 from 6:00 8:00 PM. A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 9, 2007 at the funeral home at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Philip Reichle of West Hill Bible Church officiating. Interment will follow at Long Ridge Union Cemetery, Erskine Road in Stamford.
