Edward P. Hamernik of Stamford passed away surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at the age of 88. He was born on September 27, 1928 in Stamford. He was the son of the late Florian and Rozalia (Smolen) Hamernik.
Before he retired in 1994, he was employed by Wendon Company of Stamford for 41 years. He served in the army during the Korean War. He was a parishioner of St. Vladimir’s Catholic Cathedral. In his spare time, he loved to play the accordion, the piano and to paint. His many pieces of artwork adorn the home he shared with his wife of 60 years.
He is survived by his wife Mary (Ulatowski) Hamernik, two daughters Mary Ann Morrell and Diane Hamernik, a son Paul Hamernik, one sister Helen Jamroga, his brother-in-law Joseph Ulatowski, and one granddaughter Stephanie Morrell, all of Stamford, along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Edward was predeceased by six brothers Frank, Joseph, Walter, Anthony, Michael, Reverend Peter Hamernik and five sisters Sophie Hamernik, Mary Magda, Mildred Hamernik, Sister Mary Ellen O.S.F. and Ann Hamernik.
Family will receive relatives and friends on the morning of Thursday, March 2, 2017 at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford from 8:30 AM- 10:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00 AM at St.Vladimir’s Catholic Cathedral, 24 Wenzel Terrace in Stamford. Interment will follow at St. John’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Darien.
