Elena Braccia, 94, passed away at the Tandet Center in Stamford on Monday, November 20, 2006. Born on September 28, 1912 in Ortona, Italy, she was the youngest of fifteen children, and the daughter of the late Tomasso and Anna Maria Piccininni DOttavio.
Elena worked at St. Josephs Hospital as a nurses aid for sixteen years, retiring in 1980. She was a member of the St. Marys Rosary Society and the Springdale Seniors.
She is survived by her daughter, Phyllis A. Noto and her husband Frank of Stamford; a son, John Braccia and his wife Jane of Stamford; a grandson, Frank Noto of Suffield, CT; four granddaughters, Anne Noto of Littleton, CO; June Braccia of Stamford; Joyce Braccia of Union, NJ; and Judie Lanzo of Norwalk; three great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, John V. Braccia; a sister, Elodia Piccirilli; and thirteen other siblings.
Calling hours will be held at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, on Friday, November 24, 2006 from 4:00 8:00 PM. A funeral procession will be leaving the funeral home at 9:20 AM on Saturday, November 25, 2006 and proceed to St. Marys RC Church, 566 Elm Street, Stamford, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at St. Johns Cemetery in Darien.
