Elmire “Sam” Hammock of Stamford, CT passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2015 after a two-year battle with cancer.
A native of Staten Island, NY, she held an Associate’s degree from Bryant College, a Bachelor’s from the University of Bridgeport, and a Master’s in Human Resources from Mercy College.
Her business career included working for several law firms as a legal secretary and as the executive assistant to the CEO of several firms, including Playtex Products. She retired from Playtex in 2010 after an almost 20-year career.
Elmire was a member of the Board of the Friends of the Ferguson Library and the Kingswood Association. She was a choir member and a lector at St. Maurice RC Church, as was co-founder of the St. Maurice Prayer Shawl Ministry.
She is survived by her husband of 38 years, J. Ralph Hammock, a deacon at St. Maurice RC Church; a son Anthony DeSantis; a son Edward DeSantis, and his wife, Christen DeSantis, and their two children, Miles and William DeSantis, as well as two stepchildren, Joel and Letisha Hammock.
A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held at 11 AM Thursday, September 10, 2015 at St. Maurice RC Church, 358 Glenbrook Road, Stamford. The Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Prayer Shawl Ministry at St. Maurice RC Church, 358 Glenbrook Road, Stamford, CT 06906, The Friends of the Ferguson Library, 1 Public Plaza, Stamford, CT 06901, the Carl and Dorothy Bennett Cancer Center, 30 Shelburne Road, Stamford, CT 06902 or to a charity of one’s choice.
