Elsa L. Lindsay, 84, passed away on Thursday, January 4, 2007 at Stamford Hospital. Born in Germany on December 1, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Eugene and Lina Franz Groh, late of Darien.
She immigrated to the United States in 1937 where she attended Greenwich High School. Mrs. Lindsay worked as a bookkeeper for Phoenix Management for many years until her retirement. She was a member of the Turner Liedertafel and their singing society. She was also a longtime honorary member of the German-American Cultural Center, the Norwalk Quartette Clubs singing society, AARP #972 Darien-New Canaan Chapter, a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Stamford, and a member of the Owls & Ruth Fellowship Societies.
She is survived by a daughter, Lorraine Lindsay of Darien; a sister, Hilde Groh Ratzel and her husband Arthur of Stamford; and several cousins, nieces and nephews, and many friends. She will be dearly missed.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, Gavin P. Lindsay in 1989; a dear friend, Reginald Cunningham; and two brothers, Eugene and Helmut Groh.
Friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT on Sunday, January 7, 2007 from 3-7 pm. A funeral service will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, 132 Glenbrook Road in Stamford, at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 8. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Zion Lutheran Church, 132 Glenbrook Rd., Stamford, CT 06902.
