Elwood Lichack, 92, of Stamford, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 15, 2009. Born in Byram, CT, on September 8, 1916, he was the son of the late John and Anna Laychak.
Elwood was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy for 20 years retiring as a Lieutenant Commander. While in the Navy, he served in WWII, the Korean War and was a Pearl Harbor survivor. He then went on to work at Manero’s Restaurant in Greenwich for 26 years.
Elwood is survived by his wife, Anna Evanko Lichack of Stamford, CT; a daughter, Ellen Scaccia of New Milford, CT; two sons, Elwood Lichack of North Haledon, NJ and John Lichack of Clinton, CT; a brother-in-law & nephew, Winfield Laychak of Milford, CT; five grandchildren, John O’Neil of Bethel, CT, Paul Lichack of Clinton, CT, Erik Lichack of North Haledon, NJ, Matthew Lichack of Clinton, CT and Stacy Hall of New Milford, CT; and eight great-grandchildren, Alexander & Ann Marie Hall, Benjamin, Timothy & Jacob Lichack, and Rose, Scott and David O’Neil.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Benedict/Our Lady of Montserrat Church, 1 St. Benedict Circle, Stamford, on Monday, May 18, 2009 at 11:00 AM. Entombment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a future date. There will be no calling hours.
